Taplow United Football Club History A longer history of the Club is to found at the link
opposite. Mr. E. Rutland-Clarke, headmaster of the school in 1923 and founder member of the Club, helped in the naming of the association. The name derives from the Latin word PALUS meaning marsh, bog or slough! The original club colours were chocolate, but these were quickly changed in 1926 to sky blue shirts, navy shorts and amber socks. These were the original colours of the school. The current strip of maroon shirts, shorts and socks represents the present school colours. Our present ground was acquired in 1955 and through the voluntary work of members a clubhouse was built, subsequently extended and is now being gradually modernised. The Club continues to provide a focus for present and former pupils of the school, but also welcomes others who show the same commitment to Club spirit and community. The Club fields 4 teams on a Saturday and Sunday
in senior football and has a thriving junior soccer section. The Saturday sides
play in the Reading League. The Sunday teams play in the Observer Industrial
League and the youngsters in the Slough Boys’ Combination.
Ladies football began last year and they played their first league games this
season. |
