Taplow Utd 1 Beaconsfield SYCOB 1
Taplow Utd's Jekyll & Hyde season continued with an excellent
performance against high-flying Beaconsfield. For the 1st 20 minutes
Beaconsfield gave their hosts a lesson in passing and moving and were soon
rewarded with a goal with a shot from outside the box. Taplow rallied and
were awarded a controversial penalty after a great solo run by Will Furmage
which was dutifully despatched by Ashfield Shortte. 1 - 1 half time.
With the wind at their backs in the 2nd half, Taplow managed
to neutralise Beaconsfield's superior passing, and had several good chances
in the 1st 10 minutes.
As the weather deteriorated, good football became almost
impossible, but both defences managed to hold firm. Luckily the wind and
rain did not result in any mistakes from either team and a draw was probably
a fair result.
Managers, players and supporters from both teams are to be
congratulated for their part in a match that was played in a friendly,
sporting atmosphere.
Well done Taplow a good result.

Taplow started the brighter, against a team they had never beaten in the
league, with 2 good chances in the first 2 minutes. After just 10 minutes
Captain and 'Rock' in the centre of defence, Josh Terry suffered a knee injury
forcing him to come off. Instead of deflating the lads, this spurred them on
even further, with both Niki DiBart and Ashfield Shortte narrowly missing.
The first half continued with both sides chasing a win, in a hard fought
battle - leaving it 0 - 0 at half time.
Taplow
continued to press in the second half, and were rewarded with a penalty
following a foul on Will Furmage who was clean through on goal. Ashfield
Shortte slotted it home expertly. Taplow kept control, and after a good
passing move from Jordan Lee Brown, Will Furmage and Ashfield Shortte Niki Di
Bart scored with a clinical finish, to make it 2 - 0.
Windsor
rallied, pulling a goal back to make it 2 - 1, but Taplow were not to be
outdone. Dan Fleet settled the game with a fierce volley late on, which gave
the keeper no chance, to make it 3 - 1 Taplow.
This was a
game where every player on the pitch deserved 'Man of the Match', but special
praise goes to: a makeshift defence of: Lewis Blake, James Gaskin (sub), Suki
Bains, Ben Nathan and Joe 'The Toe' Chomia - who in Josh Terry's absence
commanded the back 4; with Elliott Christie in goal A well deserved team win.
